Common Questions You May Have

Q: What Do I Need Cyber Liability Insurance?
A:

While burglary and theft are very legitimate concerns, consider the repercussions if someone steals an employee laptop or hacks into your system and has access to your client list, accounting files or intellectual property. Electronic fraud and cyber risk have been the cause of substantial damages throughout the world. In Canada, the number of data breaches was up 29 percent in 2010 and the trend is continuing upward according to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Cyber Liability is not automatically included in most insurance policies, so it is an important consideration.

Q: What Is Crime and Fraud Insurance?
A:

Crime is more than someone breaking into your shop and stealing your equipment or stock. Damages can also come in the form of employee dishonesty and cyber fraud. Crossroads Insurance has access to effective crime and fraud insurance packages to protect you against risks from all criminal sources

There are many different types of crime insurance. We can help tailor fit a crime insurance policy that fits your unique needs. We can provide coverage for:

  • Burglary and robbery
  • Money and securities theft
  • Employee fraud and dishonesty
  • Electronic fraud, fraud, or forgery.
Q: What Is Business Interruption Insurance?
A:

Business Interruption insurance supports you when your business cannot operate as a result of a covered loss. The coverage will respond to pay your fixed expenses such as: utilities, taxes and employee wages – this also includes Business Income insurance, to cover your loss of earnings.

This coverage starts at the time of the loss and continues until you're able to reopen your business.

There is also the option to purchase extra expense coverage, which helps you pay the extra costs of getting your operation running again. Examples of extra expenses are: employee overtime and relocation to a temporary site.

Q: What Is Commercial General Liability Insurance?
A:

Someone can slip and fall or cause an accident in a matter of minutes, but the resulting lawsuit or damage can set you back substantially. Commercial General Liability insurance (CGL) will protect your business from lawsuits involving bodily injuries that occur within your workplace, and injuries or damages caused by your employees elsewhere.

Q: Why Do you Need Commercial Property Insurance?
A:

Commercial Property Insurance is one of the most important investments you can make to protect your business. It doesn’t matter if you own your building, lease it or work from home, it’s important to protect your business’ physical assets against loss or damage. A commercial property insurance policy insures against losses such as theft, fire, smoke, water and vandalism.

Q: What Do You Mean by Business Assets?
A:

Commercial Property insurance covers many different kinds of assets, including: buildings, equipment, inventory and supplies, office furniture and fixtures, computers, electronics, windows, outdoor signs, fencing and landscaping. Personal and customer property kept at the business site is also covered. There is also coverage for tools and equipment while off-site but inside a company vehicle.

Q: Why Do I Want a Package Policy?
A:

A business insurance package is a cost-effective, time-saving solution. These packages are often personalized to your specific type of business, and will save you the time and trouble of investigating and buying separate policies. Not to mention, a package policy is often more cost effective than purchasing individual coverages a la carte.

Q: Am I covered for sewer back-up or overland flooding?
A:

Not necessarily. These two coverages need to be purchased additionally and are not automatically included in your policy. The availability and pricing is based on preventative measures you have taken (sump pump, back water valve) and the “risk zone” in which your property is located. Not all companies offer overland flooding coverage because it is brand new to the market.

Q: I no longer require my policy. How do I cancel it, and do I get any money back?
A:

If you no longer require your policy, we can cancel it by written request only. All individuals named on the policy must sign for cancellation. If your policy is up for renewal, sign the back of the policy for cancellation and return it to us. On renewal only the policy is returned for flat cancellation, meaning no cancellation charge or refund applies. If you wish to cancel your policy midterm, a cancellation fee proportionate to the number of days remaining on the policy will be applied against any refund.

Q: Why has my premium increased?
A:

We understand that no one enjoys watching their bills increase. However, just like the cost of groceries, insurance prices don’t stay the same. While an inflationary increase is very common (just like your groceries) we ensure that any substantial increases will be addressed by our renewal advisors. Remember, we work for you primarily, not the insurance companies. If you are not a Crossroads Insurance client yet, we would love the opportunity to quote you. Feel free to use our online quoting tool or you can contact our office for more information.
